Why Causality ?

We often emphasize on causal model in Program Evaluation. I think its not the right thing to use causal model for Program Evaluation! Can someone support my ideas ?

  1. Causality is left no space of conditionality!!! But How ???

  2. I believe causal relationships identified in evaluating a program don't help the cause, doctors can find a cause for some illness through various precised tests but its a tough task to apply this mechanism in social science. Evaluators really cannot figure out the exact causal relationship between different events. So whats the point of wasting so much time on finding a reason for a certain cause, when its clear that it's not gonna work.
But what should be its more precised replica???

  4. Let say if there is no causal relationship. Is there other way around ?
Causal studies are difficult as social behaviors and attitude vary from person to person. Establishing causality as in Natural sciences is not possible.
We are looking for out of the box solutions! May be a solution that doesn't exist in natural sciences.
If you can suggest something ? You can be 21st century's David Hume!!!

  5. i would like to say that the causal relationship is necessarey not even in program evaluation but in social research as well. social behaviour and attitude donot vary from person to person. How we shape our attitude? through our norms and traditions, through interections. so our attitude and behaviour is same in a particular society.
and causality reflects in our interections and dealings, in attitude and behaviour.

  6. Many researchers are of the opinion that one can not prove anything through research. or nothing is 100% clear for specific time. Researchers consider these principles when Causality in social research is difficult to explain and to rely on. the fact is that most researchers have slur ideas that is there any cause and effect relationship and if that exists so to what extent?? .

There is always, everywhere, some other factors which contribute to the results other than the exact causality.

  7. the cause and effect relationship is mandatory in social research because with out causality you cannot identify the third variable and this could lead to the failure of the program. that is why we always give much importance to causality in the program evaluation.

  8. without identifying the cause one cannot not find its effect.
