What is mean by social value in the policy analysis?

  1. In social sciences, we always look for the social values and welfare. Likewise, policy analysis is also centered towards social values and norms but un-biased in its approach.

The question should be that why we conduct policy analysis?

Policy analysis is done to see the policy impact or results in context of social and economic benefits. Program evaluation is also relevent field of study to evaluate the prorams and their benefits for the stakeholders.

If we neglect the social value in our life, then there might be no reason for conducting analysis or evaluation.

  2. social values could be values inherent of your own culture in a narrow context but with reference to policy analyss I believe it would be the universally accepted set of behaviour/actions that one would expect or assume to be observed or taken into account when making policy decisions

  3. V & V talk of an analayst as someone who gives client oriented advice keeping in mind social values. So i guess in some cases they would differ.A very simple example would be I believe excluding pork as a food item while expanding mcdonalds to Islamic states and a blunder would be to do so ( this is wrt multinationals)

  4. Social Values in Pakistan in most cases leads to biasness. This is one of the major drawback in policymaking in Pakistan. One of the reason behind this is that we are a nation with multicultural and multi-linguistic background.
